Doctor’s Cave Bathing Club was founded in 1906 by Dr. Alexander James McCatty. He generously donated the property to be managed by a board of trustees and directors. The original donation embodied Dr. McCatty’s belief in shared stewardship of natural resources and community access to the healing properties of the sea. This visionary gift established what would become one of Montego Bay’s most treasured landmarks and laid the foundation for the community-focused donations that we manage today.
In 2017, the board created a sub-committee, specifically tasked with developing a program to utilise the Club’s resources to further our mission – To be a catalyst for well-being in our greater community – by supporting programs, projects and individuals based within the parish of St. James.
Over the years, Doctor’s Cave has made a substantial impact in the community through programs in health, the environment, sports and education, maintained culturally and historically significant sites, and supported social intervention initiatives. Some of the notable contributions are outlined on the following pages.
