Cultural & Historical

The Dome

The Dome is a historically significant building for Montego Bay which was constructed in 1837 to protect the main source of water supply for the residents of the town in the 19th century. The upper floor was inhabited by the dome keeper. In 1893 piped water was introduced in Montego Bay and the dome became a secondary source of water in times of drought.
In 2005, Doctor’s Cave Bathing Club recognising the cultural and historical significance of the Dome, donated the funds needed to ensure that the building was rehabilitated in a way consistent with its original design and construction.

St. James Parish Church

The St. James Parish Church is listed as a historical site by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust.  The construction of the church commenced in 1775 and concluded in 1782. Beginning in 2024, Doctor’s Cave Bathing Club supported the restoration of the roof, gutters, and belfry. Termite infestation caused damage to the roof, and inspections revealed that cracks in the gutters permitted water ingress into the building. The roof of the Bell Tower, which houses the clock mechanism, was also restored. Roof repairs were completed in 2025 using termite-resistant materials. The Club takes pride in its contribution to preserving this national monument.

Montego Bay Cultural Center

Doctors Cave Bathing Club has partnered with the Montego Bay Cultural Center as of June 2025. Originally built in 1803 as a courthouse for enslaved people, the building later housed local government offices. After being destroyed by fire in 1968, it was restored in 2021 and now operates as a museum highlighting Jamaican cultural history.

The Club provided funding to the organization for projects highlighting the museum’s cultural and historical activities. In July 2025, the first initiative was a Summer Skill workshop designed to introduce children to creative arts and aspects of Jamaican history.
